A prizewinner at international competitions such as the Enrico Mainardi (Salzburg), the FNAPEC (Paris) and the Bacewicz (Łódź), Lucas was awarded by the São Paulo State Government as one of the most outstanding young musicians from Brazil.

 

He has performed in over 20 countries across four continents—including Canada, the United States, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Argentina, Uruguay, and throughout Europe—in venues such as the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), Philharmonie de Paris, Philharmonie and Konzerthaus (Berlin), Musikverein and Konzerthaus (Vienna), Großes Festspielhaus and Stiftung Mozarteum (Salzburg), KKL (Lucerne), Liszt Academy (Budapest), Megaron (Athens), National Philharmonic (Warsaw), Isarphilharmonie and Prinzregententheater (Munich), Tokyo Metropolitan Theater, and Sala São Paulo.

Lucas has appeared in festivals such as Chigiana and Trame Sonore (Italy); Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Rheingau Musik Festival (Germany); La Chaise-Dieu and Flâneries Musicales (France); Mozartwoche (Austria); Musicus Fest (Hong Kong) Shanghai International Arts Festival (China); Campos do Jordão and Ilumina (Brazil); Festival Academy Budapest (Hungary); Istanbul Music Festival (Turkey); and Ljubljana Festival (Slovenia).

Additionally, he is the founder and director of the apARTE Festival in Rio de Janeiro.

 

Lucas made his solo debut performing Haydn’s C major Concerto during the European tour of the Japan Youth Orchestra, with concerts at the Musikverein in Vienna and the Danube Palace in Budapest. Most recently, he performed Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Oradea Philharmonic Orchestra in Romania.

 

He is a founding member of Trio Callas, a prizewinning ensemble with Portuguese violinist Miguel Rocha and French pianist Bella Schütz. A recent highlight is the release of their project featuring the world’s first complete recording of Mozart’s and Brahms’s piano trios in immersive 3D audio, published by the label ADS High-Fidelity.

As chamber musician, he has collaborated with artists such as Kian Soltani, Roman Simović (London Symphony Orchestra), Asbjørn Nørgaard (Danish String Quartet), Cristian Budu, Gabriele Mirabassi, Jennifer Stumm, Tai Murray, and Yura Lee.

 

As an orchestral musician, he gained early experience as an academist with both the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo) and the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra. Following a successful audition, he currently is a guest player with the Camerata Salzburg.

 

Born in the countryside of São Paulo, Lucas grew up near Tokyo, where he began his first cello lessons. He currently lives in Austria and studies at the Mozarteum University Salzburg under the guidance of Enrico Bronzi. He was the last student of Antonio Meneses, and has also been mentored by musicians such as Mischa Maisky, Sol Gabetta, Steven Isserlis, Pieter Wispelwey, Miklós Perényi, Frans Helmerson, Jens Peter Maintz, Jérôme Pernoo, Julian Steckel, Rainer Schmidt and Thomas Riebl.


In addition to his native Portuguese, Lucas speaks Japanese, English, Italian, and German. He performs on a cello built in Cremona by Brazilian luthier Luiz Amorim.
